Gaga's tour forced her into bankruptcy

Lady Gaga was left $US3 million ($2.8 million) in debt when her Monster Ball tour forced her into bankruptcy.

The pop superstar launched her second series of live concerts in 2009 and has spent two years touring the show. Described as "the first-ever pop electro opera", the tour was announced after an intended joint tour with Kanye West was suddenly cancelled.

Since the Monster Ball tour began, Gaga has performed the show more than 200 times, grossing over $US227.4 million.

Gaga previously admitted her lavish stage sets and production costs left her bankrupt and she has now revealed she was struggling with a massive multimillion-dollar debt.

"I put everything in the show, and I actually went bankrupt after the first extension of The Monster Ball. And it was funny because I didn't know! And I remember I called everybody and said, 'Why is everyone saying I have no money? This is ridiculous, I have five number one singles' - and they said, 'Well, you're $3 million in debt'," Gaga said in an interview with Stephen Fry for Britain's Financial Times.

While the tour clearly burned a hole in the artist's pocket, album sales have skyrocketed in the past week with Gaga's album Born This Way debuting at No.1 on the ARIA albums chart.

The much-anticipated album, released on May 23, is already approaching multi-platinum status in Australia and has reportedly sold more than a million copies worldwide.
In Britain Gaga ended Adele's lengthy reign over the UK album chart with Born This Way scoring the biggest first week sales of the year so far.

The album shot to the top spot on the charts just hours after promoters announced that Gaga will return to Sydney for an intimate performance for fewer than 1000 of her diehard fans on July 13.

Lady Gaga smothers herself in fake blood as she transforms into gun-toting Cruella de Vil

With her larger than life image and array of outrageous outfits, every day is Halloween for Lady Gaga.

But the star went all out for the actual occasion.

The kooky singer was spotted doing her own take on dastardly Disney villain Cruella de Vil.

Wearing a black and white wig and oversize sunglasses, Gaga's long dalmatian print coat was left open to reveal sexy black underwear with a trail of fake blood splashed over her neck and chest.

The 24-year-old was on her way to a private party in Belfast, where she is currently on tour.

She was flanked by a number of people in costume, including ladies dressed as dalmatians.

Gaga also sported a fake gun as part of her ensemble.

She has been busy touring Europe and has also found time to record a duet with Sir Elton John.

The  track, called Hello Hello, will feature in a new Disney film Gnomeo and Juliet.

Cruella de Vil was made famous in the 1961 film 101 Dalmatians as the villain who kidnapped dalmatian puppies for their fur.

She was later immortalised by Glen Close in the 1996 film and the 2000 sequel 102 Dalmatians.

Lady Gaga Challenged to $1 Million Singing Competition

Lady Gaga has been challenged to a televised sing-off by Los Angeles recording artist Alisa Apps, with the winner taking home a cash prize at least $1 million.

The competition would take place at New York's Madison Square Garden or London's O2 Arena, with each singer performing a series of songs.

"I feel sorry for Lady Gaga -- she's just a plastic doll generated by the music money marketing machine," Apps states in a release. "This contest gives people a chance to choose which they prefer -- plastic or real."

Lady Gaga has not responded to the challenge thus far.

Apps has yet to release her debut album, but a clip of the singer performing the track "How Do I Make Right" has earned 1.2 million views on YouTube.

Lady Gaga Says New Album Will Be 'Spiritual'

In a new interview with The Times of London, Lady Gaga gets deep on a number of topics — life, love, health, wealth and religion, to name just a few — and from the sound of things, all of those are going to be addressed on her new album.

"You know when people say, 'If you could say one sentence about who you are, what your life is,' it's that. For the whole album," Gaga told the paper (link). "Because I recently had this ... miracle-like experience, where I feel much more connected to God."

When The Times' Caitlin Moran pressed Gaga to clarify her statement, she made it clear that the new album will not shy away from topics like God and religion, but the scope won't just be limited to Gaga's own Christian upbringing. The goal, she explains, is to explore them in an all-encompassing, broader sense.

"[It's] more spiritual," Gaga says. "I don't want to say much, because I want it to stay hidden until it comes out — but I will say that religion is very confusing for everyone, and particularly me, because there's really no religion that doesn't hate or condemn a certain kind of people, and I totally believe in all love and forgiveness, and excluding no one."

Gaga also says that, despite being in the middle of a seemingly endless world tour, she's recording music "every day." In fact, she said she has already completed the majority of the follow-up to her ultra-successful The Fame and The Fame Monster. But she was mum about just when her Little Monsters will be able to hear any of it.

"[I] can't talk about it yet," she said. "But everyone's going to f---ing know about it when it comes out."

Lady Gaga has stage fright issues

Lady Gaga has some issues with stage fright despite her increasing fame. Apparently, the outlandish pop star refused to walk the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala and then locked herself in her dressing room. “She literally wouldn’t come out,” a source told the New York Post . Friends and music execs tried to convince her, but it was artist Terence Koh and Oprah who finally encouraged her to come out. But the stagefright was short-lived. When Gaga got on stage, she told the 700 guests that co-host Anna Wintour had asked her not to swear - which she did anyway!

Paris Hilton set to relaunch music career

Paris Hilton is seemingly set to relaunch her pop career.

The 29-year-old socialite met up with acclaimed songwriter Linda Perry - who is responsible for Christina Aguilera's Beautiful and Gwen Stefani's What You Waiting For?, among other tracks - sparking speculation she is planning a follow-up to her 2006 LP Paris.

Hilton revealed the news on Twitter, writing: "Went and visited Linda Perry at her studio. She is so cool and her studio is incredible. I respect her so much as a producer, what a talent."

Stars Are Blind, the first single from Hilton, was an international smash hit upon its release, reaching the top five in the British, Italian, Swedish and Canadian charts.

Even Lady Gaga admitted she was a fan of the song.

She said: "I always thought that Stars Are Blind was one of the greatest records ever. Quite honestly it was a great pop record."

Hilton previously admitted she would like to work with the Telephone hitmaker on some new music.

She said: "Anything we do will be a surprise, so you can't know about it."

Hilton recently got some musical inspiration at the Coachella Music Festival in California, and "rocked out" to acts including Gorillaz and David Guetta.

She wrote on twitter: "So much fun tonite! Rocked it out to Tomm Yorke and the Gorillaz! So sick!! Loves it! :)

"Raged on the stage at MGMT then David Guetta and now am rocking to Muse. Best spot in the house! Huge! Coachella Rocks... Jay Z was amazing! So much fun with my sis and all my girls! :) (sic)"

Lady Gaga is Time's most influential artist

Lady Gaga has been named the world's most influential artist in a new poll by America's Time magazine.

The singer saw off competition from TV titan Oprah Winfrey and Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow to take the top spot in the list of 25 stars, which is part of the publication's 2010 Time 100 compilation.

Gaga's inclusion features a tribute from fellow pop star Cyndi Lauper, who calls the Poker Face hitmaker's lyrics "incredibly literary" and "sophisticated", and describes her "admiration" for the 24 year old.

Lauper writes, "When I see someone like Gaga, I sit back in admiration... She isn't a pop act, she is a performance artist. She herself is the art."

TV funnyman Conan O'Brien is second on the list, followed by Kathryn Bigelow in third place and Winfrey at four.

Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson makes an appearance at number six and young country star Taylor Swift is at nine, while Glee star Lea Michele is a surprise entry at number 13 - above music mogul Simon Cowell and Sir Elton John.
