Wyclef Jean Shot in Haiti

Hip hop artist Wyclef Jean was reportedly shot in the hand in Haiti. The 41-year-old Jean was in the town of Delmas, near Port-au-Prince, Haiti, when he was wounded. Reports quote a spokesperson for Jean as saying that the musician was treated at a local hospital "for a gunshot wound to his hand." Details about the shooting weren't immediately available. Fortunately, Jean was released from the hospital after receiving treatment. It certainly could have been much, much worse.

According to ABC News, Wyclef Jean was in his home country of Haiti for Sunday's presidential runoff elections. Jean is said to be a strong supporter of Michel Martelly, a Haitian recording artist and activist. In 2010, Jean actually announced he would run for president of Haiti. He was later ruled ineligible because he "failed to meet the Constitution's residency requirements."

Wyclef Jean's management took to his Twitter account in the hours after the shooting, to let followers know Jean was okay. Hopefully Jean will make a quick recovery, though no doubt his injury will sideline him from any last-minute campaigning for his friend Martelly.
